LSF Islamabad uses the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment abbreviated as CEFR. A guideline used to describe achievements of learners of foreign languages across Europe and, increasingly, in other countries .The six reference levels are becoming widely accepted as the European standard for grading an individual’s language proficiency.  The CEFR has two main objectives, the first one being the harmonization of a methodology based on a shared platform of the main goals to be achieved by the student and secondly to enable the student to have a clear idea of his/her position on a precise and well defined scale.

A1 : Elementary (Introductory)

Capacity to understand, communicate and exchange simple information (oral and written) in order to satisfy concrete needs, e.g. answer and ask simple questions and understand simple answers concerning places, people, possessions, etc…

A2: Elementary (Intermediary)

Capacity to understand and communicate direct and simple information and express oneself (orally and in writing) in familiar contexts, e.g. converse on everyday topics such as one’s work, family, shopping, immediate environment, etc…

B1 : Independent (Threshold)

Capacity to understand and express oneself in everyday situations and to deal with simple unexpected situations (oral and written) in any region where French is spoken, e.g. narrate an incident or experience, explain one’s reasons or ideas, open an account in a bank, etc…

B2 : Independent (Advanced)

Capacity to understand and to express oneself with ease on a variety of concrete and abstract subjects (orally and in writing), e.g. guide visitors and give a detailed description of a place, express an opinion on a current topic, etc…
